Keep Calm and Carry On

You all know I like to keep fairly mum about personal things, mainly just to stay out of the picture so books and stories can remain center stage, but . . . 2020. What a doozy of a year, right?

Like most everyone else, my best-laid plans for 2020 went completely off the rails. I’m finally settled for a bit in a place with lots of peace and quiet, a decent supply of chocolate and rain, and many characters tapping their feet and looking at me pointedly. I’m busy following a couple of those characters around and taking copious notes of their activities, so keep the faith, friends.

(Just one very personal observation, if I could avoid a disapproving glance from a certain Mrs. Dashwood by not confining my remarks to the weather. It occurred to me a couple of weeks ago that both Tolkien and C.S. Lewis had been working on their stories during the 1940s. If things of such lasting beauty and meaning can be created in admittedly very difficult times, perhaps there’s hope for us in our day as well.)

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming. In the spirit of under-promising and over-delivering I’m off to make major strides on A Lovely Day Tomorrow. (Did I mention that’s the title?) Fingers crossed for a 2020 arrival.

Also, wouldn’t it be great to find out who pushed whom and what happened to the cousin who’d been pushed?

Stay tuned!

This posting makes me so happy. Than you, Lynn.

  2. Valerie says:

It’s definitely been a doozy of a year. Keep yourself healthy and at peace and the writing will come. We love your books. We’ll wait. :) Perhaps not always patiently, but we’ll wait. ;)

    • LynnK says:

Haha, thank you, Valerie, for the patience, er, well, for the *waiting*, however it’s done. ;) And yes, it certainly has. Thanks for the waiting, really. <3

  3. Lesli says:

I do like the 1940’s theory. Wouldn’t it be marvelous?
Good luck with the character stalking. I’ll be waiting breathlessly for your final report!

    • LynnK says:

I know what Tolkien reportedly said about current events and his works, but you have to wonder, right? And thank you, Lesli, for, you know, all the usual things! ;)

  4. Kathy Schrieber says:

Thank you so much for the update. Also remember that Shakespeare wrote some of his great works hiding out from the plague twice. Looking forward to your new books ☺️

  5. Linda Howell says:

Dear Lynn, let me be the first to say thank you for the update and I can’t wait! The only good thing about not being able to go out during this pandemic is that it’s allowed me the time to read your books yet again! KEEP SAFE AND CARRY ON!

  6. Nichole says:

I am so excited for new books! I’ve been a huge fan for a very long time! I’m going to read the whole collection again in anticipation!

    • LynnK says:

Thank you, Nichole, and I hope you’ll enjoy the reread. (I did the same thing, have to admit, at the beginning of the year and remembered why I love Robin de Piaget so much, haha.) <3

      • Nichole says:

After going through the whole series again (a couple times with some of my favorites!) I have to say that I am curious what Alex’s brood is up to! And Robin is also one of my favorites, as is Jaimie. I love how he just sees a patch of questionable land and sees where it takes him. I have to say, you are definitely one of my favorite writers!

  7. DebbyScott says:

Oh Lynn!!😮🙂👍 I’m beyond excited. I love the title 😊Please do be safe in this crazy world and thanks so much for the update 😃

  8. Cristina Mello e Souza says:

  9. JenC says:

That is the best news I’ve had all year! Thank you so much for the wonderful update. Can’t wait to read your new book.

  10. Ms Marty Hansen says:

Will the book be released through mass marketing?????

    • LynnK says:

The short answer is . . . sort of? :) You’ll be able to get both ebooks and print copies from the usual cyber suspects (Amazon, B&N, etc.,) but I’m not actively writing for PenguinRandomHouse anymore so books going forward won’t be in, say, our local grocery stores. (PRH is still publishing much of my backlist for the moment, btw.) I would absolutely love to put books out in a standard MM format, but I’m still in the investigation stage there.

  11. RE Jacoby says:

I do hope it’s de Piaget / MacLeod series.

    Be safe

  12. Patty Burnett says:

Yes, I have been wondering who pushed whom and what happened to the cousin who got pushed. However, as I told my sister, I had been waiting for Phillip’s story since the ’90s and it was well worth the wait. So, I have learned that patience does pay off. I can tell you that this new generation – third generation? (Kendrick’s cousins and siblings – have been fun so far. The new title is intriguing. I pray you and yours is safe and healthy in this chaotic time of ours.
    God’s blessings to you.

  13. Kelly Champion says:

Lynn, I love your books. I miss the rain since I have moved back to the east side of the state. all new books are eagerly awaited. This too shall pass.

    Can’t wait.

  16. Victoria Huffman says:

    P.S. No writes like you.

  17. Rita Moore says:

Can hardly wait. I am re-reading all of your books for the third time. I love them that much. Glad to hear there will be a new one. Thanks so much Lynn. You are such a great writer. They should do a television series on your highland book series.

  18. Kathy Stringer says:

Hi Lynn, I have been reading your de Piaget and MacLeod books on a continuous cycle while I await with great anticipation, your next release! It’s a joy to escape into the medieval world of Robin, his siblings and their children, and I love the way you intermingle their stories with those of the MacLeods and McKinnons. I also really enjoy meeting the same characters across several books!
I’m wondering, is ‘the cousin being pushed’ a reference to what happened near the end of Mary and Zachary’s story?? Fingers crossed!

  19. Kathy McC says:

Your books got my mother and me through this pandemic and gave us a new thing to enjoy together. We had so much fun figuring out which ones we’d already read and talking about the characters like we knew them. Thank you. Who has film rights?

  20. Barb says:

To help with the stress of teaching remotely and in person at the same time, I’ve been reading my Kurland collection again. Okay I admit it. Maybe for the fifth time.

I’m sure the new story will be worth the wait, they always are! I’m glad you’ve found some peace in this chaotic world.

I’m voting for Jackson the 5th or one of the twins.

  21. Janelle Wilbanks says:

  24. Bethany Green says:

I too am excitedly awaiting a new McLeod / de Paiget book! I have reread all of the previous books so many times and I still LOVE them, no other even compare. I’d love a straight historical non time travel one.
Stay safe and healthy! We need you and your stories for many, many years to come.

  26. Susan Berger says:

Thank you. I am rereading you. I am so happy the next story is going to be in my favorite series. I need to write a short story. I love yours. What I am so sure of is the length of your stories. is the one about Ian under 7,000 words?
That is the length I need to aim at, but I have a feeling most of yours are longer. Help?

  27. Lyn Brown says:

I lay in bed last night trying NOT to think about elections and pandemics. I thought… “I need a Lynn Kurland fix! Searching for a new paranormal, but I will console myself by starting over with the whole two series! Cheers!

  28. Shannon Hagan says:

Dear Lynn, Thank you so much for the update. So look forward to your books. My mother passed in July, she was 95, and I sat every afternoon, after all the laundry and cooking and pill dispensing, and read ALL your de Piaget and MacLeod books to her. So your books hold a very special place in my heart as it one of the last things she and I did together. So grateful for books in a genre that is clean and fun and that I love, that I got to share with her. God Bless and stay safe.

  29. Jane says:

So happy to see a post! If you are still in the PNW then the year got interesting very, very early on for us.

It will take awhile for all this to percolate through the creative mind but ye gags, 2020 will leave writers with a lot to say.

(Might I add that Acair’s snark has come to mind frequently this year, as well as his wish to have a little lie down when things become stressful.)

  30. Cindy Graff says:

    Hi Lynn,

Is there any more news on the projected release of your newest book, A Lovely Day Tomorrow? I know that you were hoping for a 2020 release, which would mean arrival in the next month! I have just completed a complete re-read of all of your books (other than the Nine Kingdoms series), and release of a new De Piaget or MacLeod book (time travel?) would be the best Christmas present ever! It has been a long wait, although your books are worth waiting for! You are my VERY FAVORITE AUTHOR!!!!
Any update would be much appreciated.
Take care of yourself! Stay well!
Best regards from your biggest fan,
    Cindy

    I hope you are well.

  32. Kathryn says:

  33. Diana Sprain says:

I can’t wait to read A Lovely Day Tomorrow. To get in the proper mood, I have re-reading all of my Kurland McLeod and De Piaget books. There is nothing better than medieval and time travel romance (big sigh).

  34. Hillary says:

2020 is almost over and I am waiting patiently for A Lovely Day Tomorrow! Hopefully soon I keep checking every day!

  37. Joan Walker says:

WOW! I had cried a bucket of tears thinking your last book of my famous families were gone. I had to go back and start reading some of the old ones, like you do reruns. So Please, Please bring them back, so this lady of 82 can sit back and cry and laugh over this wonderful family. Thank you sooo much for all of your Wonderful Books of the De Piaget and Macleod Families. Looking forward of more enjoyable reading. Thanks again from the bottom of my Heart. Oh Yes! Let me know when your next book will be out.

  38. Deanne says:

I am so excited for your new book and can’t wait to read it! I love the family relationships you have created for your characters in the de Piaget & McCloud series. Their banter is very entertaining. They are my favorite series of books without a doubt. Any news on a release date?

  39. Abby says:

If you write it, I will read it! I’ve been a huge fan of yours for years and can lose myself in one of your series like nothing else. Thank you so much—I will forever be looking for more of your books. New ones, anyway…since I already own the ones you’ve already published…

  43. Patty S Burnett says:

Yes!!! I have many times wondered about which cousin ended up where. I have tried to be patient (not always my strong suit…lol). However, as with Phillip’s story, I know it will be worth the wait. Prayers to you and yours that you are safe and healthy during this crazy time.

    • LynnK says:

Patty, I’m with you RE patience. Not my strong suit either.

I’m planning on September 2021, but I’ll post updates when I have them.

Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts!

      Hi Zofia,

Yes, you’re so right about that. Thank heavens for books as a lovely escape!

There’s light at the end of the book tunnel, at least. I’ll post again when I have firm details. I’m hoping September 2021 . . .

THANK YOU for your kind words!
      Lynn

  45. Denise Wright says:

Can we expect this next book this year? I love the McLeod’s and Di Piaget’s and am getting tired of reading everyone else but you.

    • LynnK says:

      Hi Denise,

Haha, you made my day! <3

I'm nearing finish line; I'll update when I have a firm release date. It WILL be 2021, though.

  49. Holly Akin says:

I cannot wait for the next installment of the DiPiaget’s and McLeod’s! 2020 was absolutely insane, your books are one bright light in a very long year of waiting. Please take care of yourself. We need you :)

    • LynnK says:

Holly, *thank you*. Couldn’t agree more about the general insanity of things and I have to admit, I’ve taken some refuge in these books myself. (It’s probably why I haven’t pushed harder to get to the end of A Lovely Day Tomorrow–it’s been a guilty pleasure to linger with those characters for a bit!)

Thank you so much for the kind words and good thoughts. I appreciate it! (And I need you all too–I’m a little at a loss for how to try to make a little community of like-minded reader friends, but maybe that’s for down the road . . .)
      Lynn

  50. Mary says:

Are you going to explore any more of the nine kingdoms. So many characters there waiting for their stories to be told in the lovely way only you can do.

    • LynnK says:

      Hi Mary,
Absolutely! I wanted to check on our romance peeps for a bit–which has turned out to be longer than a bit, but I think it’s taken me a little longer to find my feet than I thought it would. I’m definitely planning on returning to the 9Kingdoms when I can!

Thank you for your kind words. <3
      Lynn

Honestly, I don’t know where the year has gone. I’m fine, just plugging away. Thanks for your comment and concern!
      Lynn

  53. Amber Magana says:

I am glad you took some time as this last year has been so crazy. I am a nurse and just keeping up with current guidelines make me dizzy. I cannot wait for another Di Piaget or Mcleod book! I loved them all, but I still think on Jamie’s son Jesse and Megan’s family. I would love to hear about them in the future! Thank for creating such a memorable series that many of us re-read.

    • LynnK says:

      Hi Amber,

Thank YOU for your hard work and kind words. :) I’ll put Jesse and Megan on my list. I’m thinking I should open up a suggestion box somewhere. ;)

Thank you for re-reading and letting me know you do. You made my day!
      Lynn

  54. Linda Howell says:

Lynn, As much as I am looking forward to future Kurland books, I am more worried that you haven’t replied to your fan mail. I sincerely hope you are safe and well and it’s only that you are so busy writing! Know that all your fans have you bbn in their thoughts and prayers!!!

    • LynnK says:

Linda, thank you! I’m always hesitant to just post something when I don’t have anything to announce, but maybe that needs to change. I’ve tried to do a decent amount of walking to keep my head clear, so maybe I should at least be posting beach-treasure pics now and then to pass the time until I do have something to announce.

You’re so kind. Thank you again. I’m genuinely touched! <3<3<3
      Lynn

  56. Cindy Graff says:

Hi Lynn, I and your myriad other fans are concerned that we haven’t heard from you in almost a year, and we have been disappointed that there has not been a new book released about the De Piaget’s or MacLeods in over 4 years. We had our hopes up for 2020. Would you please let your fans know how you are, and what is the status of any new upcoming books?
We are all concerned about you! Please be well!

    • LynnK says:

      Hi Cindy,

You’re so kind to think of me! It’s been a challenging year or two, hasn’t it?

I’m nearing the home stretch and am shooting for hopefully the end of September for a release date.

I’ll update more frequently. Thanks for the support! <3
      Lynn

  57. Patricia says:

Look to read your books. I think I have read everyone that you have written. I hope you are well and safe. Can’t wait for your new books. Please just let us know that you are ok. Mean while will keep rereading my old friends.

    • LynnK says:

Patricia, thank you! And wow, I’m really behind on answering messages, sorry. I’m fine, just regrouping a bit and letting things percolate. Life is great, hope you’ve enjoyed any rereads, and that you have a great 2022!
      Lynn

  58. Julie Nedele says:

    Dearest Lynn
In America there’s a big difference between fast food and the go-in-sit-down-and-wait food which is of more worth in health and enjoyment. I prefer the quality, not the rush.
Thank you for your stories. They’re always worth the wait.

    • LynnK says:

Julie, thank you. That was a lovely thing to read. I’m trying not to be fast food, but two years between books is probably a bit long. :) I think I just needed a year to regroup and lie fallow, if you know what I mean. I’m going for quality and more quantity this year, so we’ll see how it goes.
Thank you again for your kind words! <3
      Lynn

  59. Diana S says:

    I didn’t miss it did I? 😦

  60. Lise Tremblay says:

I was overjoyed when I learned that A Lovely Day Tomorrow was out. But then I saw it was Kindle only. Oh no !!!
Can you tell me if it will come out in paperback format soon? or at all?
    Thank you in advance.

    • LynnK says:

Lise, don’t worry. :) It will be out in print hopefully by the end of next week. I’m trying to get a newsletter together (man, do I need a keeper, or what?) so I’ll announce it when everything is put to bed. Thanks for hanging in there!
      Lynn

  61. Debbie says:

Sadly it’s easier for me to listen rather than read. Will it be coming out in audio?

  62. Carolyn Crenshaw says:

Just received A Lovely Day Tomorrow. I can’t wait to read it… I have been loving this series since 2000. I have had to replace some copies that I have worn out rereading. You are absolutely amazing and have given me so many be hours of pleasure. Thank you so much.
