Catching up

Come into my cyber livingroom, friends, and have a seat on the couch. It’s time for a little catch-up!

When it comes right down to it, I’m an intensely private person. It’s partly from wanting to give my kids some space and partly because when I shuffle off the old mortal coil several decades down the road, I would like my stories to live on without too much personal-life interference from me. But I’ve had so many lovely people ask what I was up to that I thought I might open the door a crack and put some questions to rest.

First and foremost, I am still writing.

Second—and thanks to so many of you who’ve asked—I’m fine. Several of those proverbial other shoes have dropped and I’m still here. Life is good!

And books, yes. Spring has sprung and summer is icumen in, as they say, so where are books?

The truth is, Acair was ready to take the stage in January when he and I decided the recycle icon was the best place for what was jotted down so far. He spent the winter languishing in his dungeon, I spent that same winter mulling his straits, and we regrouped a couple of months later to get back to business. More to come on a release date, as well as news about more romances!

All of that leads me to perhaps one of the bigger changes in my little world and that is that I’ve parted ways, amicably and with a great amount of residual fondness, from both agent and publisher. I’ve had the priceless opportunity to be a part of traditional publishing through some amazing times, but after twenty-three years with Berkley/Jove and the accompanying umbrellas we were existing under, it was time to make a change.

What does that mean for you, my friends sitting on my cyber sofa?

Well, for one thing, it means more books. Some will be the length we’re accustomed to, some will be shorter, some may be longer, but there will be more. On the fantasy side of things, I’m seriously considering moving away from the trilogy structure for a while and experimenting with just how long a robust Nine Kingdoms book would have to be to tell the story properly.

I will be using a variety of e-book platforms, and I’m definitely leaning toward a print-on-demand entity that produces what I consider to be absolutely lovely books. (If we’re going to read paper books, the paper they’re printed on better be glorious!) The main things that will change will be how much control I have over how often stories are released and how they’re produced. Everything else will feel very familiar.

As for the rest of it, I’ve spent a good part of the past few months just breathing in and out. Sometimes when you lose, for whatever reason, huge things that make up your known life, it takes a bit for the ashes to cool. It also takes some time to decide you’re going to be a plucky little Phoenix, stretch out your wings and eye them for sturdiness, then make a great, big leap into the sunrise.

I’ve watched many people I love make that leap and never thought I would be doing the same. It’s a lot scarier than I suspected it would be, but what a glorious view!

So, that’s where we are, my dear friends. I’m going to pull out my laptop and get back to writing. Please feel free to rummage around in your bags/backpacks/rucksacks for something to read—you all know you have at least one book in there!—and settle in. It’s going to be a fantastic journey from this point on full of new adventures and old character friends. We might even manage some retreats across the Pond where we can all tromp up and down castle stairs, inhale some glorious Highland air, and walk along beaches overlooked by centuries-old castles.

Stay tuned!

Affectionately,

Lynn

Wow! Thanks for the update. This is very exciting news. I hope you are blessed in the process.

  2. Laurie says:

I’m sure I speak for many when I say that I wish you nothing but the best, Ms. Kurland. Your books have brought a great deal of joy into my life, and my mom and I enjoy passing them back and forth every time a new one comes out. The most important thing is that you are healthy and happy, and in a positive environment that will allow your ideas to be brought to life in the best way possible. I look forward to seeing where the journey takes you next! (And if you get to share your stories with us a bit more frequently now, I certainly won’t complain…) :-)

    ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
So happy your doing well and can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
    * can we get more audio versions of your books?

    • LynnK says:

Becky, thank you and yes! Audio is definitely in my plans!

      • Jessie says:

I’m thrilled your considering Audio! Ilona Andrews does self pubbed audio and uses a WONDERFUL narrator – I can’t wait to see who you go with!

      • Sharon Self says:

Sooooo excited to read about more audio books from you! I love all of your books, but please more of the Nine Kingdoms (and getting rid of the stretched-out-3-years structure sounds brilliant!)!

      • Lo says:

So, so glad you will be producing more audio books. I’ve played the few available literally dozens of times. Any hint on when they may appear? Thanks!

        Lo

  4. Sharon O'Muilleoir says:

So happy to hear that you’re going well!
Looking forward to all the glorious new adventures ahead to read!
I own every romance novel that you have written and have them in reading order in my bookcase. Just today I was thinking of starting all over again. THAT should give me something to do until the McLeods and di Pagets can drag me down another rabbit hole on a new adventure!
    Much love, Lynn!

  5. Jeannie says:

    I LOVE your books!

  6. Sally Armstrong says:

    Glad you are ok.
    Sally

  7. Norine says:

This is lovely. Full of promise and hope. Drop by on your ‘across the pond’ adventure, please?

  8. Debby Connelly says:

Well, I am glad as is well with you. I am sad that a book is not coming forthcoming, but patience is a virtue! Wish you blessings Lynn.

    • LynnK says:

Debby, I have to say it hurt my heart a little to round-file what needed to be chucked, but yes, patience is a virtue. Thanks for hanging in there with me!

  9. Jen Moncuse says:

Thank you so much for this note! I’m thrilled to hear that you are still writing. I long for a new romance with some of my favorite people, de Piagets and MacLeods. Keep at it; I’m sure your audience will be there to support you in the world of self publishing!

    • LynnK says:

Jen, thanks and I hope so. I think it’s going to be a great future!

      • Joyce Baker says:

I can’t wait for the next books on the de Piaget and Macleod families. I am on my 7th read of both of those series. I just love them. I hope you will try to write more of them. You are just wonderful and I thank you for sharing your gift of writing with us. My God bless you.

        Joyce

  10. Anne says:

That’s a lot of change! Wishing you all the best – and to borrow some hat from Tolkien, May the wind be always under your wings.

Will be ready to read (and acquire) whatever and whenever you write.

    :)

  11. Patty Underhill says:

Awesome to hear! Thanks for the comfy spot on your cyber sofa. Much appreciated. Looking forward to many more books and I hope life continues to treat you well.

  12. Kathryn Rhodenizer says:

Yay! I am happy for you Lynn and grateful that you are ok. Your message was wonderful and I wish for you all wonderful adventures that you conjure up for us faithful followers to read!

  14. Kathleenmeuth says:

You a brave lady with a great outlook. Will look forward to your future writings with great anticipation

  15. Staci says:

Thanks for the update, and thanks for continuing to share your stories. I am a huge fan of your Nine-Kingdoms series. I am not a fan of e-books. In fact, I’ve never read and e-book from ‘cover to cover’. I find the digital experience takes away from my immersion experience. I AM a big fan of supporting my hometown bookstore, so hope what ever print option you choose to go with is something that works regularly with small bookstores.

  16. Rebecca Householder says:

So happy to hear you will be continuing to write. You are one of my favorite authors and one of a few whose books I collect. I look forward to seeing your books in the future. Best wishes!!

  17. Cece Casey says:

    Dear Lynn.
I was so jazzed to come across your messages.
I have been reading and re-reading your books for years!
Am hoping to be seeing Scotland in person this September…and will be taking the first two MacLeod books with me…lol…I promise to not step into any fairy rings….

Thank you for hours of wonderful adventures and take care

  18. Paula Haukeli says:

I sincerely hope things continue to look up for you!! When you release a new romance it makes my month. Rest assured that I will wait, perhaps somewhat anxiously 😉, for your next historical adventure. Take care Lynn and happy writing.

  19. Kim Starck says:

Have loved the journeys you have taken me on. Hope you will still do some audible books, they make doing so many necessary things fun.

  20. Pam Trusty says:

Good luck with your changes. I have faith in you. I’ve got Endy book you’ve wrote. So glad your not stopping.

  21. Nikki says:

Sweet, dear Lynn… We love you, support you and have our proverbial hands on your back. You’re a remarkable Phoenix ♡ and we glean joy & strength from you as we do the incredible characters you bring to life!

  22. Iva Albrecht says:

    Lynn,

Thank you for opening up and sharing the news! I too am a private person so I understand that it’s a difficult thing to do. I can’t wait to read your new books:) I love the trips across the pond that your books provide me.

Wishing you the very best with this fresh start and maybe you be blessed in life.

    Regards,
    Iva Albrecht

  23. Karon says:

Courage comes in many forms. It looks like you have found a substantial supply. I’m looking forward to any and all new writing of yours. You have a style so lovely and unique that I can read over and over. The proof is in my copies of your older stuff. Many of the books are rather worn and dog-eared, and very, very precious. Please keep writing!

  24. Ellen McManus says:

Thank you for the update! You probably know you could write a hundred reLiable and MacLoud books and we would never be tired of reading them. I look forward to reading whatever you write! Take care of yourself!

  25. Ellen McManus says:

Thank you for updaringx! You could write a hundred now deLiver and MacLoud books as well as others and we would never get bored!

  26. Trish Kinnick says:

Since I have all your books about the Depart and McCloud folk, I have plenty to keep my eyes and brain busy for a while. Keep on being yourself. And dream big!

    • LynnK says:

I have a wood thing on my mantel that says, “Have Hope * Dream Big.” I think we’re on the same page there. Thanks for your comment!

  27. Katie Peters says:

This makes me smile! :-) I know God will lead you along this marvelous unknown path!

I think greater freedom and flexibility would be fabulous. I’m sure you’ve got short stories laying around that publishers didn’t think were long enough to be worth their time, but the rest of us would love to reach for when we have just 20 spare minutes to escape to another world.

I’m really excited at the idea of a single-book Nine Kingdoms book. There would be so much more flexibility to find the perfect length for it, wouldn’t there be? I mean, you wouldn’t have to arrange plots so that there was a good ending point exactly 1/3 and 2/3 through, etc. The plot could go exactly how the story determines it without those strict boxes. (Or you could give us a Sosar short story. Heehee)

Thanks for sharing! And if you ever want editing help, you know I’m here! Helping you out with those typos that the best of us miss would be so much more pleasant than fixing them on the boring market research reports I’m editing all day. LOL!

    (((hugs)))

  28. Tina Henry says:

Wow. A truly wonderful post. I have read and enjoyed your time travel stories immensely. My favorites are when they take place in both the past and the now. Whatever you write, I will read and I hope that you have many more decades to spin your tales. Good health and happy travels to you.

  29. Megan Smith says:

Thank you so much for your update! I am so excited about more 9 kingdom’s books! It’s hard to wait the three years to get a completed story for each couple and I would love to have single releases-there are so many characters I’d love to read their stories. Even if you kept the multiple books but released them in the same year that would be great. I read several authors who have gone to same route you are going and I really enjoy the flexibility it gives them. I like the print on demand books and ebook angle because then I can buy a lot more from them in short stories, anthologies-all sorts of things. I was really excited to read we’ll be getting more from you each year. Every one of your books is on a special keeper shelf and you’ve given me many wonderful hours of enjoyment. Thank you!

    • LynnK says:

Megan, thank you so much for your comment! I’m excited about a chance to do some different things. And agreed: three years is a long time for one story if you’re starting with Book One! Thanks for the good home on your shelves. :)

  30. Karen Soriano says:

Thanks for the update! I love your books. Recently I had decided to reread the whole De Piaget and MacLeod series. I purchased all the ones I was missing in the series.
I read most of my books in audiobook format. Please don’t forget us listeners. Would love to have all your books in audiobook format.

  31. Dorothy Christenson says:

So glad you’re managing life’s challenges. I admit to a particular fondness for the McLeods and dePiaget’s . Hopeful something will turn up midst all !!!
    Do take care .

  32. Lo SIlverman says:

Glad you are well! I’ve loved so many of your books … especially the De Piaget and McKinnons! PLEASE let us know if there will be more audio books. You have Peaches Alexander on Audio …. Pippa Alexander on Audio but no Tess Alexander. Nobody ever answers my questions about audio books. Will there be more? Sure hope so.

    • LynnK says:

Penguin holds the audio rights to all my backlist at the moment, so we’re sort of at their mercy. I’d like to change that in the future, so fingers crossed. I would definitely like to see them all done!

  33. Carolyn says:

Such a wonderful update. So happy to know you are doing well and that we have such wonderful things to look forward to. We support you in all things. Sending blessings your way.

  34. Maryl Van Dyke says:

Taking that leap of faith is challenging and requires much courage.
Thank you for the glimpse into your literary future and I deeply look forward to seeing what develops with the de Piaget and Macleod families.
    Blessings to you.

  35. Leigh says:

I have loved u since the beginning. I am always lurking and waiting for your next story. Love U!

  36. Holly Fawcett says:

Glad to hear that you are doing okay. Change is one of the constants of the universe, and the publishing world certainly has gone through many changes in the past 10-15 years. About 5 years ago, I started buying most of my reading material digitally, and I have noticed that the majority of my favorite authors are now self-published. I applaud your courage, and encourage you to be steady on your course and to keep in mind that your fans will stand behind you. I just ask that you also keep in mind that there are many of us who also enjoy listening to audio books, so if there is a way for that to be a part of your future, I thank you. Looking forward to reading your next book. Much love!

    • LynnK says:

Thank you, Holly, for the supportive words. I definitely will be releasing audio versions of new things going forward. Older books might take a bit of time, but they’re on my list as well when they become a possibility!

  37. Chandra says:

Much like dear Gwen circumstances change, but with courage and time there’s always a Rhys on the horizon. I wish you well and the prospect of time traveling, possibly more than once a year, has me on the edge of my seat for sure.💐💐💐

I wouldn’t dare leave you without sending a little chocolate your way.🍫🍫🍫 sorry it’s not Godiva!

  38. Lana says:

    Lynn,
It’s a road of hairpin turns and unexpected dips. I am glad to hear your navigating it with precision and faith. Your characters must be restless and ready to take the page. Once they do, we are here to join all of you. God bless!

  39. Shannon Hagan says:

I am so excited and happy to hear that more books are coming. You and your books have gotten me through Back surgery, a pretty serious health issue and the last days days of sitting my father who passed at 97. Your books are like a warm blanket that I can wrap myself in and get lost for a bit when needed. Thank you for all the work I know it must take to keep them coming. I look forward to my next escape. God Bless

    • LynnK says:

Shannon, what a marvelous man your father must have been and wow what a chance to see so much time go by. I’m happy these books have been of some comfort to you! <3

  40. Dana says:

So happy to hear this on my birthday! Glad to hear you’re doing well also. Keep us posted as to when new books are coming! John, Nicholas, and Cameron have been keeping me company while I await your new release xo

  41. Mary Rankin says:

Wow! Big changes. I know from experience, big changes take time to get used to. Take as much time as you need to, but please give us new stories! I look forward to reading more from you in the future!

    • LynnK says:

Mary, I agree! I keep telling others that time is the great healer; it’s been hard to take that advice personally. I’m generally in a hurry to get going. :) There will definitely be new stories!

  42. Heidi W. says:

I am so glad you are back and hope that things continue to brighten for you. I have missed your books, there is not another out there like you. As mentioned by another fan, I am going to start in on your romances once more (I have them all) and read them from beginning to end with a goal to finish the last as your next one comes out.

May the words and thoughts flow as clear and quick as a Highland brook. Thank you, thank you for sharing your talent and imagination with us!

  43. Rita says:

Congrats to you and this new leg of the journey. I agree that when I read a print book (my fave format) that I want the print to be big enough to make the reading comfy; when the font is too small and too close, it makes it hard to enjoy the story. I hope you enjoy the freedom of self publishing and that it meets your goals and feeds your imagination (I think one of your best creations is James Macleod! And Robin DePiaget, and Nicholas, and Cam…) FB is a great way to advertise and please please keep us informed on new books coming out.

    • LynnK says:

Rita, I agree about font size. I keep thinking the print has gotten smaller over the years, but that may just be me. :) I think that’s the upside of digital, but I still love the feeling of a paper book. I’ll make sure there are good options for different needs. Thanks for the support!

  44. Vic says:

The cover of your book,With Every Breath, caught my eyes and after reading that book ,I bough every single book you wrote. I hope someday With Every Breath will be made into a movie…Please write more, I have been patiently waiting for your new books. Thank you .

  45. Diana Sprain says:

    Ms. Kurland,

Wonderful news. My Mother introduced me to your books and we have shared your stories. She loves the time-traveling MacLeods while love both families. Reading is one area where Mom and I have always connected. I’m glad you have returned to writing and hope you and yours are well. Looking forward to the next de Piaget and MacLeod books.

  46. Vicki C Hittle says:

Wow, what a huge step. Scarry and exciting all at the same time. I LOVE your romance stories. You bring your characters to life in a beautiful way. No matter how you decide to publish, I will continue to buy your books. Currently I have all of your romances in paperback & on my kindle. Your fans support you.💐
    PS. Joshua needs his turn.

  47. Melissa says:

Thank you for sharing! Your books have gotten me through some really tough times in my life, and I can’t thank you enough for that. I picked up Dreams of Stardust on a whim in line at the grocery store checkout line one day. From then on, I was hooked. I always love hearing that you have a new book coming out. Best of luck to you on this new publishing journey. I can’t wait to see what happens when you have no publisher strings attached!

  48. Melinda Poulsen says:

Thank you for sharing your wonderful stories, which have brought happiness to many generations of my family! My mother introduced them to my sisters and I, and we were quickly hooked. Since then I have shared them with all four of my teenage daughters. In this crazy world where families have a difficult time staying close, your books are a bond that continually bring the women in this family back together. Thank you and best wishes to you in your exciting new endeavors!

  49. Jacqui Hibbard says:

Thank you for sharing your life. I started with the MacLeod and de Piaget books, but am a huge fan of the Nine Kingdoms, as are my daughters (and husband!). I think they would make spectacular movies. :) And it seems that a one book rather than trilogy could work for some stories (kind of like the novellas worked). Best wishes and hope that your new path works out.

  50. Vicki says:

I am (selfishly) so delighted that you are well and still writing! Thank you for the update – I look forward to sharing more adventures with you and your lovely characters!

  51. Marcia Galloway says:

Missed your stories, Lynn. I am a huge fan of the Over the pond series and hope that you are going to release another soon. You have a gift of writing a book I cannot put down, laugh and cry while reading, and am sad when I reach the end, because now I must wait for another in the far too distant future. Please have pity and give us another soon. I am having serious withdrawals because one didn’t appear this spring. Best of luck on your new path. We never know what we can do until we are tested.

  52. Sue Barmore says:

Can’t wait for more books, I have read all of yours at least 3 times each, it is like going on a trip and visiting old friends..

  53. Stacey Jones says:

How exciting! I wish you great inspiration for your books and stories. I love your novellas as much as the full length books. I actually prefer a series over a trilogy or a single book, so I am bouncing up and down with the possibilities you have. Best wishes and much success on this new journey.

  54. Laura Huff says:

I am so happy to know you will have more books to come! I have all that were available on my 3rd and 4th Kindles so I can read them again every so often. Your books are my very favorites, and all have been read multiple times. I am keeping my paperback copies, too. Someday, my granddaughters can enjoy them!

  55. Kelly Champion says:

At the risk of being redundant I will echo other comments. You are one of my favorite authors and I am so glad you are continuing as an author. I have also been through a lot of changes over the last 3 years and am attempting to be a phoenix. My thoughts and prayers are with you. E-books are okay but there is nothing like holding a “real” book in your hands. I look forward to the stories continuing.

  56. Marty says:

    Lynn,
Good luck to you and hope the changes you’re needing are good ones! I’ve always wanted to re-read the de Paiget and MacLeod books to get their genealogical chart complete and now I have time to do so so don’t hurry on our count – finish what you need to when you’re ready, okay?

  57. Marybeth says:

Thank you so much for the update! I have been searching the web for two months to see if I could find any info on you and the latest book. I am going through withdrawal and was so concerned something happened to you. I am so happy that you are well and will be giving us more of your creative and fantastic books. I look forward to what comes next. Marybeth

  58. Denise Wright says:

I absolutely love the MacLeod and de Piaget books. So much that I have purchased all of them twice over! A few years ago I had to move in a hurry and rather than have your books in an unheated storage unit I donated them to my local library which had gotten me started on you to begin with. In the last couple of years I was able to replace the entire collection and eagerly await each new release. I do not share with others for fear of other people’s carelessness. And I also much prefer my Kurland books be “real” books. I look forward to happy reading in the future. I think I also will start over again while I am waiting.

  59. Sharon Phillips says:

I have read each of the five hundred kingdom books several times and hope that you and Acair can get together and finish his story. Seems that some characters have their own ideas about what they want to have happen. Best wishes as you embark on all of the changes you are making in your writing life.

  60. Cherry says:

Yay for more books. Your Nine Kingdom series is one of my all time favorite series. I read it from start to current at least twice a year when I’m feeling lonely and heartsick. Reading that series feels like I’m finally home after years away, silently missing it. So, if you want to write a long, more than trilogy, that properly tells the story of Sosar then by all means. I will impatiently wait for it.

  61. Priscilla Tobias says:

Thank you so much for the update! I absolutely love your books-you really are my favorite author, hands down—and I keep thinking “when is her next book coming?!”…so it was good to see that you are not stopping but making changes (and yes, life changes are scary! But hopefully rewarding as well!!!) that will give you the flexibility to do more of what you want. Hopefully more books! Audiobooks would be great too.

  62. Dorrie a melvin says:

I am so happy to hear you are still writing and wish you only the best. I just finished reading your de Piaget/MacLeod books, yes all 31…I kind of binge read when I start one of your books. I might have to start over again while I wait patiently for the next story. I think you are the only author I have found that leaves room for the imagination. Absolutely no one writes like you do.

  63. Katrina Y says:

I am thrilled to hear that you’ll still be writing! I would have gone into an eternal winter of sadness had I found out you were done! I love your books! I own them all, re-read them regularly, and frequently loan them out to get people hooked! I have worked for my local library system for over 11 years and I have suggested your books to everyone that asks me for fantastic romance books. (And they have all come back and raved!) Thank you for being willing to be an outlier in the romance world and write beautiful stories that can be read and enjoyed by many ages and tastes! I will be waiting with bated breath for your next release! Good luck and blessings on your new adventure.

  64. Sallie A Sletterink says:

Wonderful to hear you are doing well! Looking forward to future stories but most of all thank you for the laughter, history and love that make your books so special.

  65. Angela Kalke says:

Lynn, I am so happy for you! What an exciting time! I own all your books and love to re-read them often! I am almost to the end of your last book in The Nine Kingdoms series, The Dreamers Song. I hope more are to come, soon! But I will try to be patient! Thanks so much for your books and so happy to hear all is well with you! I look forward to your next chapter!

  66. Sue Romig says:

    Lynn,
I had been wondering what had become of you lately, and came across this post. I’m glad you are well and persevering. Take whatever times you need for yourself, but rest assured there will always be many of use who wait with bated breath for your next novel. I love how your mind works. Affection and best wishes sent your way.

  67. Hol says:

Thanks for this update! I’ve been checking Amazon on the regular, watching for a new book to be released, even though I have your last three still waiting for me to read (that’s what grad school will do to you), and finally thought to swing by here. Happy to know you’re writing and that more stories will be coming. (I was getting a little nervous for a bit, with no known books looming on the horizon.)

    All the best to you!

  68. Heather says:

Now that you will be self publishing, any word on getting my greedy little hands on an e-book for
“The Tale of the Two Swords” and “A Whisper In Spring”

  69. Christine Wilson says:

My dear, favorite author, I sincerely hope that your journey forward will be filled with blessings and positive things for your family, for your physical and emotional health, and for whatever writing you choose to pursue! Your talent is phenomenal, and I will be blatantly selfish enough to say that I look so forward to more Nine Kingdoms stories! :) Each of our lives are filled with blessings as well as challenges – that is a part of this mortal life, for sure – and your dozens of books (especially the more recent Nine Kingdoms) have been a needed uplift in my life during those more tricky times! :) Your creative story telling, your talent with creating and revealing your wonderful characters (both good and evil) to us, your infusion of humor, clean (thank you!!) and moving love stories….. What can I say but to be so glad that we will continue to be blessed with your wonderful stories! Best of luck! My Kindle and I will get busy re-reading some old Kurland favorites!

  70. Mary Beth says:

You are my favorite author! I love reading over and over your books! It’s like reconnecting with old friends. (I believe I have all of them) and I enjoy passing them along to my friends. (And if I don’t get them back, I’ll purchase it again…because I must have the complete set. ) My aunt introduced your books to me many years back when I was going through a really hard time. Now that my feet are planted again firmly on steady soil, I still thoroughly enjoy reading and rereading your stories. I’m so excited to see what is in store for the future.

  71. Lily D says:

Thanks for the update. I’ve been checking Barnes & Noble periodically for pre-order announcements of new titles. Am re-reading your books while I wait for the new titles!! However, I am one of those that would need future titles in EBook format. I get transferred often and cannot afford shipping books every time I move to a new location. Totally love your books!

  72. Kathryn says:

I am a little late in joining in, but so good to hear you are doing fine. Can’t wait for the next adventure with you! It is time to reread from the beginning.

  73. Pari Hooven says:

    Dear Lynn,
I was worried about you then I found your post. Glad you are well and yes I’ve been pulling books out of my ruck sack and rereading all of the De Piaget and Macleod series, so you can just imagine my excitement when I read that you maybe taking a trip back across the pond! Oh I just can’t wait. Castles,Castles, Castles. Woohoo! Take care and happy writings.

  74. Shirley Dodman says:

    Dear Lynn,

I’m so glad I looked at your page. I have been eagerly awaiting new books on the De Paigets and Campbell and keep entering your name on Amazon UK for the latest books (I have read them all, I love them).

Good luck with your ventures and please. please bring us another book in the series…soon :)

    Wishing you all the best

    Shirley

  75. Karen Wedel says:

How exciting for you to start afresh and with courage!
I’m not a fan of ebooks, mostly because I sit in front of a computer all day for my job. I am so happy Acair is no longer languishing. I love your Nine Kingdoms series! You definitely have a gift for weaving a compelling story.

  76. Sarah says:

These ladies have all said it so well – we love your books, we’re so glad you’re doing well, and we can’t wait to see what you will have for us in the future.

  77. Kami says:

Lynn, I’m so glad you are doing well! I have never written to an author before, but I have to tell you that your books cam into my life about 14 years ago during a dark time for me..and provided a welcome place to dwell. After the dust settled, I still reserve a whole day whenever you have a new book and read it cover to cover in one sitting. Your stories are special , and you have been blessed with a remarkable gift.
    Thank you!

  78. Peg Tabor says:

    Ms. Kurland,
It’s good to hear you are doing well. I’m glad things are going well for you. I hope things continue on an even keel. Sometimes we all need a little time and space to regroup. 🌈
Thanks for your books. One of the things I love the most about them is your sense of humor. They have made me laugh during dark stretches of my life when little else could.
    Thanks again, and God bless.

  79. Peg Tabor says:

    Ms. Kurland,
It’s good to hear you are doing well; I hope things keep looking up for you. Sometimes we all need a little time and space to regroup. 🌈
Thanks so much for your books. One of the things I love best is your sense of humor. Your books have made me laugh during dark stretches of my life when little else could. Each of us would do well to follow your example and be a Phoenix! 🐣
    Thanks again and God bless!

  80. Sandy Juracich says:

Lynn, I am so happy to read your post and know that you are doing well and still writing. I know change is always hard to cope with. We just downsized and moved into a retirement community. I bought all the Di Piaget and MacLeod books (in print form) as soon as they were released and they are the only ones to make the move with me. I cannot part with them as I re-read them every year. I look forward to more stories in this series. Although I use an e-reader, I still prefer having a book in my hands. I wish you well in your new endeavors.

  81. Sharon Wood says:

I am so glad that you are still writing. I keep bugging the people at Barnes and Noble for your next book. I do hope you take some time for yourself.

  82. Nicole says:

So thrilled for your new venture and to see what the future holds for you! I, along with many others, will be waiting right here for whatever magic you send our way ❤️

  83. Eileen says:

Well I’m glad to hear of your news and the new venture you will be on. Sounds exciting! Having just finished Ever My Love I hope there will be more time travel adventures. I have read all of these and absolutely adore them. I might to go find Rhys’ story and start all over again. I love your writing and I really look forward to more. Thank you!!

  84. Amber C. says:

Thank you for leaving this to be found. I hope you are well. ^_^

  85. Priscilla Miles says:

Lynn or as we say in the deep South Ms. Kurland,
I am a huge fan of your books! As I have listened to the stories (I use Kindle’s read-to-me feature) on my hour commute, I have enjoyed them so many times I feel as though the characters are my family. My real family has even read the stories now and enjoy them as much as I. My daughter is 13 years old, in the gifted program, and to challenge her I asked her to pick a novel to read over the summer. She read Elizabeth and Jaime’s story and loved it! Then during this last week at school she has read during free reading Ian’s story. She sat down with me last night to come up with a challenge vocabulary test for her friends from the story. Her favorite words were wench, lard, hall, and clan. It really stumped some of these southern teenagers! I know this is a long rambling letter, but I just wanted to let you know that down here in Florida you have one family that absolutely loves your work! We always look to see if there is anything new out and if we take a long trip we fight over which story we will listen to of yours. Thanks for making our favorite books and keep writing! Love the Miles family!

  86. Jacqueline Lee says:

I’m glad to hear you’re OK. It sounds like something life changing has happened to you. God bless you dear Lynn. I have all of your books that I can find. I love to be able to read a good romance that doesn’t make my spirit cringe. The idea of not having to wait two years to read the end of a fantasy sounds good to me. I hope you’ll run with that.
    All my best wishes

  87. Jane says:

I had become worried when I saw no release date for Acair and Leirsinn, so thank you for the update. I will wait patiently for more.

And congratulations on the big change! I’m happy to see what you can do with the freedom to write longer – and shorter – stories.

  88. Linda K Atkinson says:

Just thought I would check your page to see if all is well. Thank goodness it is. Love your time travel books , I have them all . Please rest up so you can make my day with a new book.
    Take care

  89. Shannon says:

I love your Nine Kingdom series, so much. I am not a patient woman, but I am happy to wait for excellent fantasy series! Looking forward to reading your next book. Did I mention I’m haunting Amazon on monthly basis looking for news?

  90. Cindy Graff says:

    Dear Lynn,
You are my very favorite author, and I have purchased and devoured every one of your historical/time travel romances. It has been a long drought without a new book from you, and I have been very worried that all is not well with you. I was so very delighted to see your post in June, but now over 4 more months have passed without another update from you. Would you please share with your devoted fans any news about how you are doing, we are all concerned about you, and, if you have any news about potential new book release dates or other information, we would all be most appreciative. Rest assured that we are all behind you in what has clearly been a difficult time for you, and we support you taking the time that you need for yourself. We will be there waiting to buy it when you do succeed in releasing another book, no matter when that will be, and I am confident that it will be worth waiting for!
No doubt it will be a big success!
With warm wishes and hopes for your good health, happiness, and lots more wonderful stories to come,
    Cindy Graff

  91. Emily says:

Oh I’m so glad!! I’m eagerly awaiting your next romance in the Highlands! Maybe the Nicholas type with a tall more sturdy girl rather than slender? Lol ;)

Thank you so much for sharing your dreams with us!

  92. Zofia says:

So glad to hear you are still writing. I long for a new romance with some of my favorite people, de Piagets and MacLeods – i have re-read them so often they are beginning to look tatted and worn.

  93. Holly says:

I am so happy to hear you are safe, and as well as can be. I, too, am rereading my favorite MacLeods and DePiaget stories.

  94. Eileen Melton says:

Dear Lynn, I almost started to reread Acair’s and Leirsinn’s books again but decided to check in before doing so as I had forgotten what you wrote in June. I am not at all surprised that Acair gave you a difficult time, I expect he needed more time in Uachdaran’s dungeon! He has become more engaging with the help of a couple of mages and a good woman so we can’t complain when you felt that things weren’t right and needed rewriting. I hope it was a good summer and that you have been blessed with peace and happiness. Eileen

  95. Cathy Ward says:

Dear Lynn thank you for sharing your talent with all of us. I’m from Alaska and my husband and I (almost 50years) love your work and so do my daughters, thNks for clean yet passionate and lively stories of strong women honorable men and sneaky clever villains! I love time travel novels.particularly when well researched for historical veracity. Looking forward for more(:

  96. Kayla Baker says:

I am so glad the stories will continue. I have been missing my favorite author. Please keep us posted as to where we can find your work. I will read whatever format I can get my hands on. Until then I will reread them all.

  97. sharon says:

So glad to hear you are coming back as strong as ever. You are the only author’s books that I buy, others I get from the library. I treasure your books and have reread them often. Being a bit psychic,I see more wonderful things coming your way, including a new person in your life. Also a new pet maybe???? can’t wait to read another great story of yours.

  98. Dwight Hardin says:

With your departure from Publisher and Agent, does that cause any problem with Amazon/Audible?

Also when is Ruith’s series going to be on Audible?

  99. Bonnie S. says:

    Hello Lynn,

Happiest of holidays to you! I am eagerly awaiting Acair’s release from his dungeon. Can you please share with us when we can expect the release of his and Leirsinn’s continuing story?

    Thank you so much.

  100. Victoria Huffman says:

Merry Christmas Lynn, to you and your family. I understand totally, and will be there when the time is right when a book appears in the stores.

  101. Leesa says:

Are/will any of your books be optioned for film? I would love to see them come to life on the screen.

  102. Tracy Ingram says:

You are – hands down – my favorite author of all time and I am an avid reader. You create a “place” like no one else and the melody of your plots is unique and recognizable in such a lovely way. I cherish each of your books as they arrive. You have a great voice and I am glad you will continue to share your stories, places, and characters with us. Blessings to you in all things. Go and be your best you.

  103. Robin Wheeler says:

Merry Christmas! I hope your new year brings lots of wonderful things for you and your new book publishing! Can’t wait to hear about when your next book will come out, :) and will gladly order it as soon as it does. Any idea when Acair’s next book will be out? Happy New Year!

  104. Melinda Denton says:

I am so behind you in all your endeavors Lynn. I never tire of your books. And please take care of you, that is what is most important. I will patiently …well maybe not that patiently but lovingly await your next book and know it will be a winner as all your books are. I am happy that you are thinking e-books as I sometimes have trouble with my eyes. Heres to you and your new book publishing ideas in 2019…yours truly, Mindy.

  105. Anne says:

Wishing you all the best in the new year.
    Hugs.
    Anne

  106. Patty Burnett says:

I pray 2019 brings you as much happiness as your books have brought me over the last twenty or so years. I’m rereading Phillip and Imgoen’s story, right now, and loving it. He has always given me such laughs. Looking forward to reading his cousins’ tales.
Thank you and May God Bless you in this new year.

  107. Elaine Swan says:

I’ve just been reading you the last 2 years and I enjoy being able to disappear into the past. The 3 spirits are so much fun, you really need to give them some actual romance, after all, turnabout is only fair.

    Thanks for the good reads.

    Elaine S

  108. Jennifer says:

Dear Lynn, I so look forward to reading more of your books. I hope you have risen from your ashes and are happily typing away on a new book. I look forward to the continued stories of Aciar. Also I wondered if you have thought of redoing Miles tale to a full book. He is such a great brother and character in your dePaiget family. Sure miss reading new stories from my favorite author.

  109. Meggan says:

Happy New Year to one of my very favorite authors! Hope that you’re doing well. Thought I’d stop in to your page for any news and to thank you for your work. I adore the Nine Kingdom series!

  110. Gail says:

Being patient, hope you are doing well. Your books take me away from stress of daily life and I re-read them continuously. I normally re-read an entire serieries in prep for your next release. Since I don’t know what your next book will be I’m not sure which one I should restart. Any hints for next release?

  111. Michael says:

    Mrs. Kurland,

My first book of yours caught my eye in the local library sale spot. Being a fantasy adventure fan (Magic, elves, dragons and such) I figured, give it a try. After the first book, I gladly plopped into amazon, and like any good reader, I had to have the rest of them! While I realize I am not your typical fan, I thoroughly enjoyed each book, and eagerly anticipated delving into the next tumble of twists and turns.

As a man, I *never* thought I would enjoy reading something tagged as a “romance novel”, but I am enjoying the journies through the Nine Kingdoms! Thank you!

  112. Jennifer Smaltz says:

A few years ago I found a. Copy of This is all I ask at my work and I thought is sounded interesting. Some one was giving it away so it ended up with me, I have since read it about 10 times. Last month I found 8 more of the de Piaget and MacLeods at my library. I checked them out and read them all in 2 days, now I am hooked and will be buying all of them. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. I had to make a quick timeline for all the main characters with births and marriages, I got a little confused with all the we Piaget’s. Would love to hear more for Miles and Abigail and would love a book for Oliver, he sounds like he has a story waiting.

  113. Robin Baker says:

I understand how life can take you in unexpected directions. On February 1st of 2018, my dad was shoveling snow and had a stroke. He was technically dead before he hit the ground but my mom dropped to her bad knees and hips and performed CPR until help arrived. My brother is a Lt. in the local fire department, so the EMTs refused to give up on Dad, and when he arrived at the ER, he was breathing on his own again. ER doctors insisted that he wouldn’t last 24 hours. He was my best friend and co-conspirator for 55 years, and I fell apart. When he was still with us the next day, I started to hope. After a week, I pretty much moved into his room at the hospital to make sure he had the best care possible (I’m a retired nurse, by the way). After 2 weeks of survival, the doctors pronounced him to have Devastating Traumatic brain damage, he was diagnosed as being in a persistant vegitative state, and his doctors insisted (wrongly) that he would never be able to respond or recover, and suggested hospice. Long story short, Dad fooled everyone, even managing to give me a the best birthday gift ever, his last smile, which I’d been telling him was all I wanted from him that year (not his LAST, but a smile; He hadn’t since the stroke). I had several gains with him, and a few times I could actually tell that he was coming back, but just after his 82 birthday, he had another attack, and he left us forever this time. As you can imagine, I was completely devastated. My whole world collapsed. I’m still in tears most of the time. But in caring for dad constantly for 9 months, I never had time to realize that for the first time in what, 20 or more years, I didn’t get a new Lynn Kurland book for my birthday! And on checking into your website, I find that there still isn’t one available?! Any clues as to when I can escape into the past with your latest hero and heroine? I can’t tell you how desperately I need something to make me feel better, and nothing has ever done that as effectively as one of your books. I do understand how life gets into the way of plans, but PLEASE don’t make us wait too much longer! Thanks for all the joy you’ve brought me <3

    • Amy Tarvin says:

I, too, am an eager fan awaiting more novels! I read your note and just had to take a moment to send you a virtual hug! Hope you get it.

Dear Lynn, please throw us a bone. We have all been waiting and wishing you the best! Sometimes you just really need a good pick me up/ getaway. :) All the best!

      Amy in Nebraska

  114. Pam DeWispelaere says:

Lynn, wishing you the very best! I’m always on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book.

    Take care!

  115. Sally Inada says:

Big doings! Please keep us updated as to how to find your books. I’ve always loved your slightly shorter stories in the anthologies. I hope this move frees you to write stories however long or short they need to be, not according to a publisher’s word count.

  116. Glenna says:

I miss reading your books. I have read every one you have written, and I hope to read more of them soon.

  117. Christine Wilson says:

Missing wonderful new things from you. (Especially Nine Kingdoms) :) However, I sincerely hope you are feeling well, and that things are progressing as you’d hoped with the business of writing, publishing and distributing. Best wishes to you!

  118. Leah Schwartz says:

I love the Nine Kingdoms. For some reason, the McLoed and DePaiget series touched my emotions an a higher level. I always loved the give and take between the generations, the care and “stand by your back” feeling. There are lessons learned that can be taught in any generation. I miss having a new one to enjoy and learn from.

  119. Alanna Mello says:

I just wanted to let you know Ms that I absolutely LOVE your books, an reading Much Ado In The Moonlight, for the 3rd time and oh my gosh your characters are so wonderful!i hope all is well with you and that we may see another MacLeod or de Piaget book sometime in the future. Wishing your all the very best,

    Your faithful reader Alanna

  120. Kayla says:

Hello! I was wondering if any more of the Nine Kingdoms books would be available as audio books someday. Also looking forward to getting the next book whenever it comes out. I hope that you are doing well.

  121. Candice says:

    Listen Lady.
I read your Nine Kingdoms series back to back & inside out in (2weeks) through what has been the most difficult time in my life so far. Thank you for the anticipation, and something to look forward to. Acair, though. Like. Really. Thanks.
    Keep it up!

  122. irma p godbee says:

When will the next de Piaget or MacLeod book be at the book store? Love your books, can’t wait.

  123. Eve says:

I am a Nine Kingdom’s fan, and going into withdrawal due to the delay (no pressure there…) I am sure it will be great when it comes out. In the meanwhile I will have to write endless “Well, maybe…” plots in my head. Meanwhile, go do what you do to clear your head for writing, and to reward yourself for taking care of the ucky business side of things. Thanks for sharing your creativity.

  124. Rae B says:

    Lynn, (or helpful ghostly assistants)

Please let us know if you have more tales to tell, or have you gone wanderIng MacLeod land with out a map? Should we launch a rescue from a Ferguson pit?

(Checking out history books, just in case)

  125. Ginny R says:

I thought I’d check out your website to see how you’re doing. I’m glad you’re happy and healthy. What exciting news you have! I can’t wait to see what happens. Yes, good changes are still changes and stressful, but it sounds like you have more freedom to write what you want to write. You are a true storyteller and I’ll reread your other books while waiting for new stories! Have fun being creative!

  126. Jan Avants says:

Just checking in, I just finished your nine kingdoms last book The Dreamer song, Love the series and look forward do anything new you write. I’m not a techno person, but I hope you let your readers know, how to obtain your new books.

  127. Linda Tepper says:

I am late catching up with your news. I do hope that you are well. I do not know what print-on-demand means but all I hope is that I can buy your books easily on the internet. I really want a mate for Sosar as I really love the nine Kingdoms books. Of course I have all of your books as keepers and when low times come I reread and relax. As for all your Scotland land books I just smile and enjoy. Thank you so much for giving me great pleasure in the past and I am looking forward to all your new adventures that you can write.

  128. Robynn Wren says:

    Ms. Kurland,
It’s a relief to read that you’re healthy and well. I kept looking for the next book in the Nine Kingdom series and was concerned when it didn’t come out. As anxious as I am to read the next book, I can appreciate the wait while you’ve gotten your bearings. I’ve collected every one of your books (short stories too) and have read several many times. I just finished rereading one and decided to sleuth around for news on future books. Congratulations on taking a leap and spreading your wings! I have no doubt it will be worth the risk for both you and you’re fans.

  129. Kaylie Bolles says:

I am so glad to hear that you are doing well and are continuing to write! I absolutely love your books and can’t wait for more to come! They have been my go to reads for years! I’ve read and reread the Nine Kingdoms series so much that I’ve actually had to buy a second copy of book one, as it is starting to fall apart. The same with a couple of my de Piaget books as well haha! >-<
Best wishes to you and your new adventures!
    Kay

  130. Gloria Prince` says:

One of the things I have learned in 73 years of living is that things always change and usually for the better it turns out. I am glad your books will be electronic because as I get older it becomes harder on my hands to hold those paper books the size of yours and I so love to reread your books. They are like old friends that you enjoy visiting with every couple of years. Best of luck with your new ventures.

  131. Patricia Guston says:

Are there going to be any DePiaget or MacLeod books anytime soon? I really miss them. I have no interest in the fantasy series. Can you please give us an update?

  132. Cindy Graff says:

Just want you to know how eagerly I am awaiting another book from you, hoping that you are well, and wanting you to know that I and MANY OTHERS wish you all good things, good health, happiness, and success in the future! 135. jason says:

I was relieved to see this thread until I noticed it is almost a year old. Is the information in it still accurate?

  136. Vic says:

Please write more time travel romance. I am dying for your new book. Hope, all is well with you and you are still writing.

  137. Laurel says:

I am worried about Acair of Ceangail. Is he still in the dungeon? Are you OK? I worked with my Dad in getting his book self published and I know how challenging it can be. Hope all is well with you.

  138. Em Devine says:

    Ms. Kurland,

I have been with you since I picked up a copy of The Very Thought Of You. It caught my eye being one of my favorite Billie Holiday songs. I’m so very glad it did. It was a book store in the galleria mall, Middletown NY. That book store has been gone some time.
Hard to believe that almost 20 years has passed. I still have your autograph you sent me through the mail. I thank you again for those. I never wanted to go to a book signing before.
My visions gotten much worse during the years and though I can’t read print so much I still have your books. I listen now though on audible instead. I actually just finished listening to Kendrick’s and Gen’s story. I know it’s your first and it’s still one of my favorites. Artane’s tales really speak to me. Christopher’s story… I’ve read that one so many times. I absolutely love your work. I hope all your new endeavors are highly successful. I love the world’s you create so much I’ll have to give your new ones a chance. Don’t forget about the old ones though okay? They’re still home for some of us.
I really hope you get them on audio for the visually impaired of us. I miss visiting Artane.

  139. Robin Flatt says:

Have I missed something important? Are you still going to be writing and publishing your stories? I feel like a lifetime has gone by since I last enjoyed a new book by my favorite storyteller(and my grand-daughter wasn’t even born yet then, so technically it has)! You haven’t updated in forever, and I’m beginning to worry that I’ve already read all I ever will be able to of the DePiagets & Mcleods, and I can tell you, that makes me terribly sad. Would you please at least let us know that you are still here and haven’t decided on a new career, please? Keeping you in my prayers in the meantime

  140. Connie says:

I love your books so much that they have influenced me to become a writer. I finished my book but trying to find a publisher. Any advice.

    • LynnK says:

Hi Connie, congratulations! Getting things down on paper is a great accomplishment. If you catch this reply, send me an email and I”ll give you what advice I have on publishing. It isn’t all that much anymore past write what you love, which you’ve obviously already done.
Send me a note and I’ll reply off this thread . . .
      :)
      Lynn
